E35 error on a Balay washing machine: causes and safe fix
The E35 code may indicate an internal leak. Find out what to check safely and when professional help is needed.
The E35 code on a Balay washing machine usually means that the system has detected water where it should not be, normally in the appliance’s bottom tray. The cause may be a small leak in a hose, the door seal, the drain pump or an internal connection. As a protective measure, the washer may stop the program to prevent electrical damage and further water loss.

What the E35 error means on a Balay washing machine
On Balay models belonging to the BSH platform, the E35 warning is usually linked to water detected in the base or an internal leak. It should not be confused with drain codes such as E18 or F18, which appear when water cannot leave the drum. In this case, the machine interprets the situation as a possible water-loss risk and blocks operation.
The source is not always visible. A dried-out seal may release only a few drops during the spin cycle; a loose clamp may leak only while the drum fills; and a worn pump may dampen the lower area without leaving an obvious puddle. The exact code can vary by series and production year, so the appliance manual and its E-Nr. reference are important.
What to check before switching it on again
Unplug the washing machine and close the water inlet tap. Turning it off from the control panel is not enough: the priority is to cut both electricity and water before looking for moisture. Remove the laundry if the door opens normally, but do not force the lock if water remains inside or the door is still locked.
Inspect the floor, door seal, detergent drawer and visible hose connections. Excess foam, detergent residue in the seal or a bent hose can help narrow down the diagnosis. You can also clean the drain filter only when the appliance is unplugged and with a container under the cover, since residual water may come out.
Tilting the washing machine to empty the bottom tray or removing panels is not a recommended household repair. Water may reach electrical components, and incorrect handling can make the fault worse. If the code returns after the exterior has dried, the leak is probably in an internal area that needs technical inspection.
When to stop testing
Professional assistance is needed when there is water beneath the appliance, a burning smell, unusual noises, moisture near the power cable or an E35 code that returns immediately. It is also sensible to request a diagnosis if the machine leaks during filling or spinning, even when the leak seems minor. Persistent moisture can damage the motor, pump and electronic board.
Do not bypass sensors, repeatedly reset the appliance or use it while the bottom tray is wet. A reset can clear a temporary warning, but it does not remove the physical cause of a leak. To identify the correct replacement part, the technician will need the complete model, the E-Nr. number and the code shown on the display.
A protection signal, not a minor error
The E35 works as an early warning: the washing machine has detected a condition that could lead to a more expensive failure. Keeping the seal clean, using the correct detergent dose, checking pockets and avoiding an overloaded drum can help prevent leaks and excessive foam. Even so, no habit replaces the inspection of a damaged seal, pump or connection.
When the code disappears and there are no signs of moisture, it may have been a one-time detection, but caution should guide the next step. A dry, stable Balay washing machine with no leaks is the minimum condition for safely restarting a program.
