Balay dishwasher E16 error: causes and safe solution
The E16 code can stop a wash cycle because water keeps entering. These are its causes and safe checks.

The E16 warning appears when a Balay dishwasher detects that water is entering continuously, a condition that may be caused by a faulty inlet valve or an incorrect reading from the system. As an immediate precaution, close the water supply tap and disconnect the appliance before carrying out any external checks.

What the E16 warning means on a Balay dishwasher
The code does not necessarily identify a leak. Its main meaning is that the appliance interprets a continuous or uncontrolled fill. The dishwasher regulates water intake through an inlet valve and sensors that monitor the level; if the valve remains open, water may continue flowing even after the program has stopped.
It may also be caused by a fault in the water protection system, the level sensor or the electronics that process these signals. A reset can therefore clear the warning temporarily, but it does not repair a blocked hydraulic component. If the error returns when another cycle starts, it should be treated as an unresolved fault.
Checks that do not require dismantling the appliance
With the dishwasher switched off, check that the inlet tap is properly closed and that the hose has no kinks or loose connections. Also look for water beneath the sink or around the connection to the trap. A shifted installation can put tension on the hose and affect the filling circuit.
After closing the supply, wait a few minutes and reconnect the appliance without opening the tap. If the E16 disappears only during that attempt and returns when the water is restored, the behavior points to the inlet valve or the filling control. Dismantling the Aquastop hose or handling its components is not advisable because it contains safety elements and the intervention may cause a leak.
Differences between E16, E18 and E15
The codes may look similar because they all concern the water circuit, but they point toward different areas. E18 is usually associated with difficulty receiving water, such as a low-flow tap, a bent hose or a blocked inlet filter. E15, by contrast, generally activates leak protection when the appliance detects water in the lower tray.
With E16, the characteristic signal is that the appliance believes water is still entering. If the pump runs constantly, a leak is visible or the code appears alongside other warnings, keep the tap closed. The combination of water and electricity means repeated tests, tilting the appliance or working at its base should be avoided without experience.
When technical assistance is necessary
Professional intervention is appropriate if the code returns after a reset, if the dishwasher fills while switched off or if continuous water flow can be heard. A technician can check the inlet valve, level sensor, pressure chamber, wiring and electronic board, components that cannot be reliably diagnosed through a superficial inspection.
Before requesting a repair, note the complete model number from the rating plate and explain when the warning appears. This information helps distinguish an inlet issue from a protection problem or a control fault. Closing the water supply and cutting the power until the cause is known protects the home and prevents a small fault from damaging the cabinet, floor or electrical installation.
Maintenance reduces water-related warnings
Regularly cleaning the tub filter, removing food residue and checking the hoses helps keep the hydraulic circuit stable. Limescale can also affect valves and sensors, especially in hard-water areas; using regeneration salt according to local water hardness supports the internal softener.
E16 should not be treated as a notification that can simply be ignored. It signals that the dishwasher has detected a fill condition incompatible with normal program control. A cautious response, limited to closing the supply and checking accessible parts, contains the risk while determining whether the repair concerns a hydraulic component or the electronics.
