E3 error on a Balay induction hob: causes and solution
The E3 code can have several causes. Find out what to check and when a technician is needed.

The E3 code on a Balay induction hob means that the appliance has detected an abnormal condition and has stopped cooking as a protective measure. In many models it is linked to temperature, ventilation or the electronic system, although the exact meaning may vary according to the hob reference.
If you have a problem with your induction hob, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
What the E3 code means on a Balay hob
Induction technology uses power modules, sensors and a fan beneath the glass. These components control the energy supplied to each zone and monitor the accumulated heat. When a reading falls outside the expected values, the system may display E3 and temporarily lock operation. It is therefore unwise to assume that a sensor is always broken: the same warning can depend on the specific model.
Overheating is a common possibility after cooking for a long time at maximum power, particularly when the hob is fitted without enough room to release air. Liquid residue, objects resting on the touch panel, a blocked ventilation grille or a problem with the electrical supply may also play a role. On hobs such as the Balay 3EB815LR, whose connected load can reach 4,600 W, the installation must meet the conditions stated in its manual.
What to check before cooking again
Switch the hob off using its control and remove all cookware. Then disconnect the power from the relevant circuit breaker for about 10 minutes. This reset allows the circuits to discharge and the appliance to reassess its sensors. Before switching it on, wait until the glass is completely cool and clean the surface with a soft cloth without soaking the controls.
Also check that nothing is blocking the underside of the worktop and that the fan can expel air. Do not cover the vents or store utensils directly beneath the hob. If the warning disappears, use one zone at medium power and observe its operation. A soft fan noise while the appliance cools may be normal; however, a persistent burning smell, crackling or another shutdown means you should stop using it.
When to leave the repair to a technician
If E3 appears again when the hob is cold, with no cookware present and after the reset, the cause may be the temperature sensor, wiring, fan or power module. Inspecting these parts requires opening an appliance connected to the mains and testing electrical components. Do not open the hob or test it with a multimeter unless you have electrical expertise.
The manual for the exact reference should be the final guide, because Balay uses different electronic platforms and codes depending on the model. Note the message, the complete appliance number and when it appears; this information helps with diagnosis. If the error continues, an authorised technician can check insulation, sensors and modules, and determine whether one part or an installation issue is responsible.
An induction hob should not be used while an active error code remains, even if it seems to recover power after several attempts. The electronic protection is designed to prevent further damage, not to make cooking more difficult. Keeping air inlets clear, respecting the maximum power and responding to warnings promptly helps preserve the appliance and distinguish temporary heat from a genuine fault.
