WiFi smart washing machine: what it offers and how to choose it well
What do these connected models offer, how much do they cost, and what should you check before choosing one for home?

The connected washing machine is no longer a catalog curiosity: today it has become a standard part of the digital home, with prices in Spain starting at around 250-300 euros and rising quickly when auto-dosing, artificial intelligence or steam cycles appear. The most popular models combine remote control, mobile alerts, automatic programs and inverter motors, a mix that reduces consumption and simplifies laundry without turning it into a technical ritual.
The real appeal is not just being able to turn it on from your phone. What matters is that these machines adjust water, time and, in many cases, detergent more precisely. In today’s mid-range offerings, capacities of 8 to 10.5 kg, speeds of 1,200 to 1,600 rpm and Class A energy labels are common, with some models even advertising improvements over the standard. Connectivity changes the routine, not just the controls
In practice, the big novelty of a Wi-Fi smart washing machine is that the appliance stops being an isolated device and becomes part of a home network. That means it can receive commands from an app, send notifications when a cycle ends and, in some cases, offer basic diagnostics if it detects an issue. The value is not on the phone screen, but in the time it gives back to the user.
Brands have been refining this area with different solutions. Home Connect, ThinQ, SmartThings, hOn or their equivalents allow you to start, pause, schedule or check the wash status without standing in front of the machine. Some platforms add functions that are more useful than they first appear: program recommendations based on fabric type, temperature adjustments, detergent dosing help or drum maintenance alerts. In homes with split schedules, long shifts or a heavy mental load, that automation matters more than any futuristic argument.
Not all functions carry the same weight. Remote control is useful, yes, but where connectivity really starts to make a difference is in wash optimization. An algorithm that detects the weight or type of load can shorten the cycle, reduce water usage or choose a gentler combination for delicate fabrics. That is where technology stops being ornament and becomes a fine-tuned, almost invisible adjustment that shows up on the bill and in the wear on clothes.
What they do better than a conventional washing machine
The comparison with a classic washing machine is often reduced to the phone, but that is too simplistic. These machines add layers of automation that change the whole experience: they detect load, correct timings, suggest programs and, in some cases, coordinate washing with the dryer. The result is less manual intervention and less room for everyday mistakes, such as using too much detergent or choosing a more aggressive cycle than necessary.
In today’s market, the standout features are auto-dosing, steam, quick cycles of 15 to 30 minutes and wrinkle-prevention programs. Samsung, LG, Bosch, Haier, Hisense, AEG, Balay, Candy, Cecotec and Corberó compete in this space with different proposals, but the pattern is repeated: inverter motors, app control and some system that promises savings without sacrificing cleanliness. In some models, the manufacturer even talks about a more convenient lifespan for the user thanks to maintenance alerts and remote error reading.
The economic difference is also relevant. At the lower end, options appear from 269 to 339 euros, especially from Candy, Hisense, CHiQ or Cecotec. In the mid-range, many models sit between 390 and 500 euros, where LG, Bosch, Samsung or Haier offer more refinement. And above that, especially in built-in or high-end ranges, the price can easily jump to 700 euros or more. The purchase, therefore, is not defined by Wi-Fi, but by the balance between capacity, quietness, efficiency and genuinely useful features.
How energy and water savings work
Savings do not happen by magic. They rely on load sensors, inverter motors and programs that adapt cycle length to the actual weight of the laundry. When the machine knows it is not full, it does not work as if it were; when it detects less demanding fabrics, it does not treat them with the same intensity as a heavy load. This adjustment reduces consumption and avoids damaging clothes with unnecessary movement.
The energy label is an essential guide here. In the Spanish market, models with Class A are already common, and some manufacturers highlight figures such as A-10% or A-20% to indicate performance above the average in their category. Noise is also important: some machines are around 69 dB while others are in the 78-81 dB range, a noticeable difference if the washing machine is near the living room or a bedroom. It is one of those features that do not impress in a store, but are appreciated after months of use.
The capacities that best fit each household
In a one- or two-person household, a capacity of 7 or 8 kg is usually enough and also helps avoid oversizing the appliance. In this range there are compact models with reduced depth, such as some from Hisense, CHiQ or VOK, designed for narrow kitchens or laundry rooms with limited space. Dimensions matter as much as connectivity, because a good app does not make up for a machine that forces you to rearrange half the room just to fit in.
Medium-sized families usually do better with 9 to 10.5 kg. That range makes it possible to wash sheets, towels and weekly clothes without juggling loads. LG, Samsung, Candy, Haier and Bosch concentrate many of their connected offerings in this segment. When laundry piles up because of shifts, remote work or young children, the extra capacity translates into fewer cycles and, over time, more rational use of time and energy.
Above that, 11 or 12 kg washing machines are a logical solution for large households or for those who frequently wash bulky items. Haier and Hisense have pushed this niche strongly, where connectivity adds value, but what matters most is the combination of internal space, spin performance and stability. A large connected washing machine is not much use if it vibrates too much or becomes excessively noisy with each spin.
The brands setting the pace
Candy dominates much of the entry-level showcase because it offers Wi-Fi connectivity in series such as ProWash, RapidO or Smart at very competitive prices. Its spec sheets highlight features like Snap & Wash, delayed start, child lock and quick cycles, with 8, 9 and 10 kg models that are especially competitive. For anyone looking to enter this type of technology without paying a major premium, it is one of the most visible options.
LG plays in another league: AI Direct Drive, TurboWash 360º, ThinQ and intelligent fabric detection. Its message focuses on washing better in less time and with less wear. Samsung bets on EcoBubble, AI and auto-dosing, while Bosch relies on i-DOS, EcoSilence and a strong reputation for durability. Haier and Hisense have gained ground with very complete offerings in connectivity, steam and quick washing, often at more moderate prices than the traditional giants.
Among the brands competing strongly on value for money are also Cecotec, Corberó and CHiQ. They do not always offer the refinement of premium brands, but they do provide a set of features that covers the essentials: inverter motor, Class A, quick programs, steam and internet connectivity. In a real purchase, that combination is worth more than a flashy name on the front.
What to look at before buying a connected washing machine
The first decision should not be the app, but the capacity. Buying too little means repeating cycles; buying too much often increases cost without adding real benefits. Next, it is worth checking the depth and access dimensions, because many 8 or 9 kg models fit within 60 cm in width, but not all have the same depth. In tight spaces, a few centimeters make the difference between a clean installation and a struggle with the furniture.
The second filter is energy efficiency. Class A has become a reference point in the mid and high ranges, although you should not look only at the letter. Water consumption, spin performance, noise and motor quality also matter. A quiet inverter model can justify a slightly higher price if the washing machine lives near common areas or is used at night.
The third filter is the real usefulness of connected features. Basic remote control already solves quite a lot, but auto-dosing, diagnostics, cycle-end alerts or intelligent program selection increase the value of the purchase. By contrast, some extra functions are used once and then buried in the app. It is worth separating commercial flash from domestic usefulness, which is almost always more modest and much more important.
The real price goes beyond the product label
A connected washing machine should not be judged only by its sticker price. Installation, space, consumption and appliance lifespan also need to be considered. A 299-euro model can be an excellent purchase if it meets a specific need, while one costing 500 or 600 euros only makes sense if it adds finely tuned auto-dosing, more quietness, a better app or a higher capacity that will actually be used. Price alone says little.
The medium-term user experience also matters. A clear panel, a stable app and useful notifications save frustration. By contrast, slow connectivity or a confusing interface end up reducing the value of the purchase. In home appliances, sophistication that gets in the way quickly loses its charm. Good technology is the kind you notice when it is missing, not the kind that forces you to think too much every time you use it.
In today’s market, competition has pushed down entry barriers. That benefits buyers, because you no longer need to go to a premium range to get Wi-Fi, steam, an inverter motor and Class A. The offerings from Hisense, Candy, Cecotec and CHiQ show that connectivity has stopped being a luxury and has become a mid-range feature, sometimes even the gateway into the segment.
Connected laundry no longer sounds like a distant promise
The evolution of these models confirms a clear trend: the washing machine has stopped being a background appliance and has become another node in the digital home. Controlling the cycle from your phone, receiving an alert when it ends or adjusting the program from outside the house is no longer a technological rarity, but an everyday improvement that has become normalized very quickly. The question is no longer whether that option exists, but which one best matches the rhythm of each home.
In that decision, technical features matter as much as real life. A family that needs capacity and quiet will look for something different from a person living alone in a small apartment. Someone who washes sports clothes often will value steam and short cycles; someone prioritizing savings and maintenance will look for auto-dosing, diagnostics and a stable app. The Wi-Fi smart washing machine is not chosen for trendiness, but for how well it fits habits, space and consumption.
Laundry technology is leaving behind the idea of a passive machine. It now calculates, alerts, learns and coordinates with other appliances. It is not science fiction; it is a home appliance that has started to better understand human routine. And in a home where everything competes for time and energy, that ability to adapt ends up being its greatest selling point.
