Scooter charger: how to detect the fault and avoid risks
Simple checks to locate the fault and avoid replacing the battery unnecessarily.

You connect the charger, its indicator comes on and yet the battery percentage does not move. In other cases, no light appears at all. The charger is one of the first components worth checking, but it is not the only one: the wall socket, charging port, BMS and cells can also interrupt the process.

Signs that point to a faulty charger
A healthy charger usually shows activity when connected to the wall and changes state when connected to the scooter. The most common pattern is a green indicator at rest and a red one during charging, although some models work the other way around. The color itself is less important than whether the indicator changes when the vehicle is connected.
If the LED remains off, try another socket without a power strip and inspect the entire cable. Cuts, crushed areas, bent plugs or a connector that only works when moved indicate wear. A power adapter that becomes too hot to touch, makes loud buzzing sounds or smells of burnt plastic is also a concern: unplug it and stop using it.
An illuminated indicator does not guarantee that the charger is delivering enough power. A damaged internal component may show voltage with no load and fail when connected to the battery. Therefore, a constant green light together with a scooter that does not react may indicate an output, port or protection-system fault, not necessarily a flat battery.
How to distinguish the charger from the battery and port
The most useful clue is how the whole system behaves. If the scooter still starts and runs on its remaining charge but the percentage does not increase, the charger or connector becomes more likely. If it shuts down with apparently sufficient charge, loses range sharply or always stops at the same level, the battery or BMS needs a deeper inspection.
The charging port can collect dust, moisture and mud because it sits close to the ground. With the scooter switched off and the charger unplugged, use a flashlight to look for dirt, corrosion, bent pins or blackened plastic. It can be cleaned with air or a small amount of isopropyl alcohol, but never insert needles or metal objects. If the connector moves or charging depends on a particular position, there is probably a loose solder joint or worn port.
The most accurate adapter check uses a multimeter set to direct current, while respecting polarity and the voltage shown on its label. A 36-volt nominal system usually needs a 42-volt charger; a 48-volt system approximately 54.6 volts; and a 52-volt system close to 58.8 volts. A much lower, unstable or zero reading confirms that the charger is not working properly.
When to stop testing and seek a repair
A lithium battery can block charging through its BMS when it detects over-discharge, overheating, a short circuit or cell imbalance. This can also happen after leaving the scooter completely discharged for months. In that situation, the charger may be working correctly and still fail to start because the battery has fallen below the safety threshold.
Do not open the battery pack, bypass the BMS or force current with another adapter. A swollen, deformed, wet or very hot battery, or one with a chemical smell or burn marks, should remain disconnected and away from flammable materials. Deep discharge and cell replacement require professional equipment; trying to revive the pack at home can cause a fire.
If the diagnosis confirms that only the charger has failed, a compatible replacement commonly costs between 20 and 45 euros, depending on voltage, amperage and manufacturer. A port may be cheaper as a part, but replacing it requires disassembly and soldering. Compatibility must be checked at three points: output voltage, current and polarity. An identical connector is not enough. Choosing the correct adapter and keeping it dry, ventilated and free from sharp bends extends its service life and prevents a minor fault from affecting the entire system.
