The E16 code on a Balay washing machine indicates a fault with the door closing or locking system. What the E16 code means on a Balay washing machine

Before starting a wash, the machine checks two conditions: that the door has physically engaged and that the electrical safety lock confirms the door is secured. These checks require the appliance to be disconnected and electrical measurements to be taken, so opening the casing without experience is not advisable.
