What the F17 code means on the Balay TW 5512

On Balay models in the 3TW family, the F17 warning is linked to the water filling time. The electronics expect the water level to reach a set point and, if the flow is too low or water does not arrive, the program stops to prevent incorrect operation. The error can occur during washing, but also during drying, when the appliance opens the water inlet to manage moisture and remove lint.

Installation inside a cabinet can indirectly worsen the problem. A bent hose, a partly closed tap or low water pressure may go unnoticed during washing and become obvious during drying, which depends on an additional water circulation sequence. That is why pulling the appliance out of the cabinet does not always remove the cause.

Checks that may solve the problem

Disconnect the appliance from the power supply and check that the water tap is fully open. The manual for this range specifies a working pressure between 1 and 10 bar, with an approximate minimum flow of 8 liters per minute at the tap. Also check that the inlet hose is not crushed behind the appliance or sharply bent.

The next point is the small filter located at the inlet connection. Close the tap, carefully unscrew the hose and clean the mesh with a soft brush; some models have another filter at the rear of the appliance. Keep the air inlets clear, ventilate the room and use previously spun clothes, but do not operate the appliance if you notice a burning smell, water on the floor or damage to the power cable.

When professional inspection is needed

If F17 returns after cleaning the filters, confirming the flow and checking the hoses, there may be a problem with the inlet valve, level sensor, wiring or electronic board. These parts require electrical measurements and disassembly, so bypassing them or repeatedly restarting the appliance is not safe.

Note when the code appears, whether it happens only during drying and whether water enters the drum. This information helps distinguish a simple blockage from an internal failure. If the machine will not reset or the warning appears in every program, leave it disconnected and request a diagnosis with the full model and product number from the rating label.
