Xiaomi scooter rear light: causes and solutions
Cables, battery, moisture and connectors can explain the failure. Learn how to locate it without replacing parts unnecessarily.

A rear light that does not turn on reduces the scooter visibility and may reveal a wider electrical fault. On the M365, Essential, 1S, Pro and Pro 2 models, the most common causes are a broken cable, a loose connector, a faulty LED lamp or insufficient battery power.
If you have a problem with your electric scooter, you can use our free error code finder. From there, you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
What to check before taking the scooter apart
The first clue is how the light behaves. If it stays off even when braking, the problem may be in the LED itself or in the power line feeding it. If it flickers, glows weakly or works when the rear mudguard moves, suspect a connection damaged by vibration. On the M365 and related models, the cable runs through an area exposed to impacts, moisture and twisting.
Turn off the scooter, unplug the charger and examine the visible wiring without pulling the conductors. Look for cuts, crushed sections, corroded terminals or connectors that are not fully inserted. Moisture can also create intermittent contacts, especially after riding in the rain or cleaning the vehicle with too much water. Do not use a pressure hose: it can force liquid into the controller and battery.
The most common Xiaomi rear light faults
A broken rear mudguard is more than a cosmetic defect. When it vibrates during a ride, it can rub against or stretch the lamp cable until the wires break internally. In that situation, the lamp may look intact while receiving no power. A proper diagnosis requires checking cable continuity and power delivery, rather than simply replacing the LED assembly.
The light itself can also fail. A lamp connected to a suitable power source that does not turn on probably has a burnt-out LED circuit. If it works outside the scooter, the cause lies in the wiring, connector or power supply. On some Xiaomi models, the rear light receives power directly from the battery system, so a very low or deteriorated battery, or a faulty internal connection, can cause irregular brightness.
A light that turns on but becomes excessively bright when the brake is applied requires specific inspection. There may be a problem with power management or the braking circuit. Do not bridge wires or install a bulb with an unknown voltage: an incorrect connection can damage the controller and turn a simple repair into a more expensive fault.
How to decide whether to repair or replace
If the fault is a loose terminal or a broken cable near the mudguard, a technician can repair the section and protect it against further vibration. When the housing is cracked, water has entered or the lamp circuit board is corroded, replacing the complete light with a part compatible with the exact scooter version is usually more reliable.
Before buying parts, confirm the model, connector position and cable length. Replacement lights for the M365, 1S, Essential, Pro and Pro 2 may look identical, but their installation is not always the same. Electrical compatibility matters as much as the outer shape. After fitting the replacement, check the running light, brake response and mudguard stability before riding.
Rear visibility leaves no room for improvised fixes
Rear lighting is a safety feature, not a decorative accessory. Riding at night with the lamp off makes it harder for other road users to judge distance and may conceal battery or wiring problems. Regularly checking screws, connectors, the mudguard and sealing helps identify wear before the light stops working.
When a visual inspection is not enough, voltage and continuity testing should be carried out by someone experienced with scooter electrical systems. Disconnecting the battery before handling the wiring reduces the risk of short circuits and controller damage. Repairing the source of the fault instead of replacing parts at random provides a safer diagnosis and helps prevent the same problem from returning.
