What happens when suds take over the drum
Excess suds act like a blanket that cushions the normal friction between clothes. And that friction, although it may sound like wear and tear, is an essential part of washing. When suds dominate the inside of the drum, water circulates more poorly, rinsing becomes less effective, and some dirt can remain trapped in the fibers or redeposit on the already clean garment.
The problem does not end there. In many modern washing machines, the system detects an abnormal level of suds and extends the rinse cycles to compensate. That lengthens the cycle, uses more water, and, in some models, delays spinning because the machine cannot stabilize the inside of the drum. Overdosing is the main cause. Many people think that more detergent equals more cleaning, but in a modern washing machine the opposite happens when the recommended dose is exceeded. Excess soap does not dissolve or drain away easily and ends up creating too much suds. This becomes even more pronounced if the load is small and the same amount intended for a full drum is used.
The type of product also matters. Concentrated liquid detergents, overdosed pods, or some products intended for hand washing can produce more suds than desired in a high-efficiency washer. In persistent cases, an additional rinse with a small amount of distilled white vinegar may help break down soap residue, but without overusing it or mixing it with other cleaning products. When the overflow repeats, the filter deserves immediate inspection. A dirty or partially blocked filter makes draining harder and encourages soapy water to remain in the system longer than necessary. The pump can also become clogged. In some machines, excess suds makes the system work erratically, and if there are also lint or sediment residues, draining becomes more difficult. Why some modern washing machines correct excess on their own
