Appliance trips the circuit breaker: moisture, heating element, or outlet
Identify the source of the fault, distinguish a breakdown from a leak, and avoid risks at home with clear criteria.

When an appliance trips the residual current device, the home is not only left in the dark: it is also warning of a current leak or of an insulation fault that should not be normalized. In practice, that trip usually points to moisture, a damaged heating element, a cable in poor condition, or an internal short circuit in the appliance itself, especially in equipment with water, heat, or a motor. The correct response is not to keep flipping the lever again and again, but to identify the affected circuit and assess whether the problem is in the appliance, the installation, or both.
The difference between a one-off nuisance and a serious breakdown lies in repetition. If the residual current device trips when you turn on the washing machine, oven, dishwasher, or water heater, the cause is usually fairly well localized; if it trips with everything unplugged, the focus shifts to the electrical panel, the wiring, or the switch itself. In either case, safety comes first: the residual current device exists to protect people from indirect contact and leaks that can end in electric shock or fire.
