F43 error on Balay washing machines: causes and safe solution
The F43 code is usually linked to the motor. These are its causes and the checks you can perform safely.

The F43 code on a Balay washing machine usually indicates a problem related to the motor, its electronic control or communication between both components. The appliance may stop, fail to start a cycle or display the warning when it tries to move the drum. This is not a message to ignore: continuing to use the machine could worsen an electrical or mechanical fault.
Before considering replacing parts, it is useful to distinguish between a temporary glitch and a persistent failure. A short power reset may clear a temporary error, but if the code returns when selecting a program or starting the spin cycle, the motor assembly needs to be checked with suitable equipment.
If you have a problem with your washing machine, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
What the F43 code means on a Balay
The washing machine electronics control the drum’s speed and direction through sensors, wiring and a power board. When the system does not receive a consistent response, it records F43 as a fault in the drive system. The source may be the motor itself, the sensor that measures its revolutions or the module regulating the current.
In older models with conventional motors, worn carbon brushes can prevent the drum from starting or cause irregular rotation. In machines with brushless motors, the fault may be in the electronic module or the motor itself. Therefore, the code alone cannot determine which part needs replacement.
Symptoms help narrow the diagnosis: unusual noises, a burning smell, sparks, a locked drum or stops during spinning are particularly important signs. If any of them appear, switch off the appliance and unplug it before carrying out checks.
Safe checks before requesting assistance
With the washing machine unplugged, check that the drum turns by hand without being completely stuck. Do not force it: an object trapped between the drum and tub can create resistance, while worn bearings may also produce a deep, continuous noise. Remove any excess laundry and check that the machine is stable.
Then leave the selector on off for a few minutes and reconnect the appliance only to see whether the warning disappears. This reset only helps rule out a temporary electronic fault; it will not repair a worn motor or damaged board. If F43 returns, avoid running repeated test cycles.
Opening the casing or testing the motor without proper training is not recommended. Internal electrical connections and components may retain charge even after the machine is unplugged. Checking brushes, the tachometer, connectors, triac or power module should be done by a qualified technician.
When it is no longer a household check
Professional intervention is needed when the drum does not turn, the code returns immediately or the machine always stops at the same point in the program. Diagnosis should establish whether the motor has continuity, whether the speed sensor sends the correct signal and whether the board supplies the expected voltage. Replacing the motor without checking these parts may solve nothing and increase the repair cost.
The machine must also be disconnected immediately if you notice smoke, a hot-plastic smell, electrical crackling or a leak near the wiring. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination, particularly when moisture reaches the lower section of the appliance or the power socket.
The final cost depends on the model, age and affected part. Replacing brushes is usually cheaper than replacing a complete motor, while an electronic board can significantly increase the bill. The model number, normally located inside the door frame, helps confirm spare-part compatibility.
Other warnings that can be confused with F43
A washing machine that does not spin does not always have a motor fault. An unbalanced load, too much foam, a door that fails to lock or a drainage problem can stop the program without displaying exactly the same code. The timing of the stop and what happens to the water in the drum help distinguish them.
E18 and F18 codes are generally linked to water drainage; E17, F17 and E29 point to difficulties with water intake; E16 usually concerns the door lock. Identifying the exact message and keeping a note of it before switching off provides useful diagnostic information. F43 should be treated as a drive-system fault, not as a simple filter warning.
Correct diagnosis prevents unnecessary repairs
The F43 error does not automatically mean that a Balay washing machine has reached the end of its useful life. Sometimes only a worn component, a connector repair or a control fault is involved. The key is not to force the appliance and to obtain a diagnosis based on the specific model and observed symptoms.
An orderly inspection protects both the machine and your budget: first rule out external blockages and temporary faults; then check the motor, sensors and electronics. Safety must define the limit of any household inspection, because the inside of a washing machine is not a suitable place for experimentation.
