E29 error in Balay washing machine: causes and safe fixes
Check the water supply and filter before assuming an internal appliance failure.

The E29 code on a Balay washing machine usually indicates that the appliance is not receiving water correctly to start or continue the program. The tap may be closed, the hose bent or the small inlet filter blocked by limescale and sediment. The display shows the warning, but it cannot identify by itself which component has failed.

What the E29 code means on a Balay washing machine
The washing machine needs a minimum flow rate to fill the drum and calculate each cycle phase correctly. When that flow does not arrive in time, the system interprets it as an inlet water problem and stops the wash. Therefore, the first place to check is outside the appliance, not the motor or electronic board.
The cause may be as simple as a temporary water interruption or a partly closed valve. The supply hose, its small connection screen, the inlet valve or, on some models, the AquaStop system may also be involved. The naming varies between generations, so it is worth checking the code against the model E-Nr. number and its instruction manual.
Checks that may solve the problem
Before handling any connection, switch off the washing machine and unplug it from the power supply. Make sure the tap is fully open and that other outlets in the home have normal pressure. Then inspect the hose from the tap to the rear of the appliance: it must not be crushed, twisted or trapped against the wall.
The inlet filter is normally located where the hose connects to the washing machine. With the water supply turned off, carefully unscrew the connection and remove visible dirt with a soft brush and water. Do not use sharp objects, since a deformed mesh can allow particles to reach the valve. Once it is reinstalled, open the tap slowly and check for leaks.
It is also important to observe the water pressure. A tap that produces only a thin stream can trigger the same warning as a blocked hose. After carrying out the checks, reconnect the appliance, select a short program and see whether it begins filling. Do not force the door or remove panels to reach internal components.
When there may be an internal fault
If the tap works, the hose is clear and the filter is clean, the problem may be in the inlet valve, the component that opens the water passage when it receives an electronic command. A wiring fault, defective flow meter or activated AquaStop protection may also prevent filling.
These checks require measurements and disassembly, so they are not suitable without experience. Request technical assistance if the code returns immediately, the washer receives no water despite sufficient pressure, or moisture appears around the connections. Stop the intervention immediately if there is a burning smell, sparks, smoke or a leak.
The exact model changes the interpretation
Balay codes do not behave identically across every series. On some washing machines, water-related warnings appear as E17, F17, E29 or a tap symbol. This variation explains why some guides associate the same number with drainage or the motor. The safest reference is the documentation for the exact model.
The E-Nr. number is usually located inside the door frame or behind the filter cover. Recording that reference together with the code gives the technician precise information and avoids replacing unnecessary parts. In most cases, checking the water supply and inlet is the most sensible initial diagnosis; if it does not clear the warning, the repair should be left to a qualified professional.
