E15 error on a Balay washing machine: causes and safe fixes
The code may point to an internal leak. These checks help protect the washer and determine when a repair is needed.

The E15 code on a Balay washing machine usually means that the leak protection system has detected water in the appliance’s lower tray. The machine may stop the program, block the water supply and activate the drain pump to prevent a leak from causing further damage. It should not be used again until the source has been found.
Before handling it, close the water tap, unplug the appliance and dry any visible puddle. The warning may be caused by a loose hose, a worn seal, a leaking pump or water collected after a blockage, but the code alone does not identify the exact component.

What the E15 error detects in a Balay washer
In many Balay models built on the BSH platform, E15 is linked to the activation of the anti-leak sensor or AquaStop system. A float located in the base moves when it detects water, and the electronics interpret this as a possible escape. For safety, the washer may prevent a new cycle from starting.
Water in the base does not necessarily mean that the drum is damaged. It may come from the detergent drawer, a loose clamp, the hose connecting the tub to the pump, a poorly closed drain filter or excessive foam. On specific models, the naming can differ, so the E-Nr number on the label inside the door is essential to confirm the meaning.
Checks that do not put the appliance at risk
With the washer unplugged, inspect the floor, the inlet hose connection and the filter area. If the filter contains water, place a container under the cover and open it slowly, since a considerable amount may escape. Also check that the cap is properly tightened and that the drain hose is not bent or displaced.
Inspect the detergent drawer and door seal for residue, cuts or foreign objects. Heavy foam can overflow through the dispenser and reach the base. Cleaning accessible surfaces is reasonable, but do not remove panels or bypass the sensor: electrical voltage and a hidden leak can create a serious risk during the next fill.
After removing a small amount of visible water and leaving the appliance fully disconnected, the code may temporarily disappear. That does not prove the fault is fixed. If E15 returns when the tap is opened or a program starts, there is a water entry that requires leak testing and specialist tools to locate.
When professional repair is needed
Technical assistance is necessary when there is a continuous leak, the drum keeps draining, a persistent damp smell appears or the code returns after cleaning the filter. A professional should also intervene if wet cables, a burning smell, unusual noises or water under the casing are visible. In these situations, keep the appliance unplugged.
The diagnosis normally includes the pump, hoses, door seal, inlet valve, water-level sensor and lower tray. The price depends on the part and labor; as a general reference in Spain, a visit may cost between 50 and 80 euros, excluding replacement parts. The repair should be quoted after identifying the leak rather than replacing components at random.
Once the source has been fixed, use the recommended detergent dose, check pockets and clean the filter regularly. The E15 error acts as an early alarm: switching off the washer protects the floor, electronics and clothing, but above all prevents a small leak from becoming an expensive failure.
