Balay Profesional 518: errors, codes and solutions
Codes, heating faults and electrical problems in Balay ovens, explained with safe checks and practical guidance.

Warnings on the Balay Profesional 518 oven do not always indicate a serious fault. Some appear because of a power cut, excessive temperature or a safety function; others do point to a component that needs inspection. The key is to distinguish normal behavior from a persistent fault and act without taking the appliance apart.
If you have a problem with your oven, you can use our free error code finder. From there you can identify and solve all errors easily and effectively.
What the Balay Profesional 518 warnings mean
This range may show electronic messages linked to oven protection. A warning similar to -E- H- may appear when the appliance reaches an excessive temperature after prolonged use. In that case, switch the oven off, keep the door closed and wait until it has completely cooled before reconnecting it.
-U- out may also appear after several hours of continuous operation. It is not necessarily a fault: it is a safety limitation that may be cleared by pressing a key, provided the oven has returned to a normal temperature. The wording can vary according to the exact version, so the model number on the rating plate is essential for interpreting the code correctly.
The oven does not heat or switches off
Before blaming a heating element, check whether there is power in the home and whether the circuit breaker or residual-current device has tripped. A power cut can leave the clock flashing; until the time is reset, some models will not allow cooking to start. This simple check resolves many cases of an oven that will not start.
If the residual-current device trips every time you switch the appliance on, disconnect it and do not repeat the test. This device protects against electrical leakage, so the cause may be a heating element, wiring or electronic fault. The inspection should be carried out by a qualified technician, especially on an appliance connected to 220-240 volts and drawing close to 3,580 watts, as some models in this family do.
Light, thermostat and heating elements
If the interior lamp does not come on, the bulb may be loose or burned out. Replace it only with the oven disconnected and use a part compatible with the appliance’s operating temperature. If the new bulb also fails, the fault may be in the socket or lighting circuit.
The thermostat light switches off when the oven reaches the selected temperature and comes back on during maintenance cycles. Likewise, heating elements do not have to remain red-hot to heat the oven: they work in intervals and their glow may not be visible. The absence of a red glow does not confirm a fault; the more reliable sign is whether food reaches the expected cooking result.
Smoke, steam and condensation on the door
During cooking, water in food turns into steam and leaves through the intended ventilation areas. A light mist on the glass or drops around the door can be normal, especially when preparing food with high moisture content. Excessive condensation, however, may be connected to a damaged seal, a poorly seated door or insufficient installation ventilation.
Smoke with a burnt-fat smell usually comes from residue inside the cavity or from previous grill use. Remove trays and visible debris, let the oven cool and clean the interior with a suitable product, without soaking electrical areas. If smoke is dense, appears when the oven is empty or comes with sparks and a plastic smell, cut the power and request an inspection.
Maintenance that prevents recurring warnings
Regular cleaning protects the enamel, reduces odors and prevents grease from carbonizing on the heating elements. Use warm water, a soft cloth and non-abrasive products; on stainless steel, always follow the polishing direction. Do not use metal scouring pads or spray liquid directly onto the control panel.
The Balay Profesional 518 is usually installed in a standard opening of about 60 centimeters, and some models include an extendable carriage, a convenient solution for handling heavy trays. Even so, removing the door, heating element or control module should be left to trained personnel. The full model number and exact display code help avoid generic diagnoses and identify the correct part.
When to stop using the oven
An isolated warning that disappears after cooling and restarting may be a normal protection response. By contrast, a repeated code, uneven heating, a residual-current device that trips again or steam escaping along the sides of the door justify a professional inspection.
Prudence also protects your budget: forcing further cycles can worsen an electrical defect or damage the electronics. A diagnosis based on the exact model turns a confusing display into a useful clue and helps determine whether maintenance is enough or a repair is already needed.
