What the F4 code means on a Balay hob

F4 does not always identify a broken component. On Balay models, it may be related to persistent overheating after cooking for a long time, using a high power level or leaving a zone operating under unusual conditions. The protection works like an automatic switch: it cuts power to the zone or the entire hob before heat reaches delicate components.

It may also appear after heat builds up beneath the glass, ventilation is restricted or cookware transfers more heat than expected. The code should not be confused with the H or h symbol, which indicates residual heat and warns that a zone may still burn even though it is no longer heating.

How to clear the F4 error on a Balay ceramic hob

Switch off the hob and remove cookware from the cooking zones. Then leave the glass clear and wait at least 30 minutes, especially if the warning appeared after a long cooking session. Do not place wet cloths, ice or cold objects on the surface: a sudden temperature change can damage the glass.
