Balay induction hob with two numbers: causes and solution

When a Balay induction hob shows two numbers on its panel, the message usually corresponds to an error or protection code. They do not all indicate a serious fault: some appear because of excessive heat, an incorrect electrical connection or an unsuitable pan, and disappear once the cause is corrected.

The exact combination is decisive. Notices such as F2, F4, F5, F8, U1, U2, U3 or U400 do not mean the same thing, and the manual for the specific model should be the final reference. Before touching the installation, switch the hob off, remove the cookware and allow the electronics to cool.

What the two numbers on the Balay panel mean

The display may alternate a letter and a number, show two digits or present a combination preceded by E, F or U. In practical terms, the letter indicates the type of incident: F often relates to temperature or internal operation, while U may point to the power supply or communication between components.

Code F2 usually appears when the electronics have become too hot or detected an electrical irregularity. F4 and F8 may also be linked to accumulated heat and prolonged use. U1, U2 or U3, on the other hand, may require checking the voltage and waiting for the zone to cool before switching the hob on again.

Safe reset and simple checks

With the hob switched off and cold, clean and dry the touch panel. A drop of water, a cloth or a pan resting on the controls can trigger warnings and beeps. Then disconnect the appliance at the electrical panel for at least 30 seconds and reconnect the power. Some models need several minutes to restore their controls.

If the warning disappears, check the pan: induction requires a ferromagnetic base positioned in the center. It is also important not to block the lower ventilation openings or use several zones at maximum power when the installation has limited capacity. Code U400 deserves particular attention because it may indicate an incorrect hob connection; do not open the appliance or alter wires without the necessary knowledge.

The letter H or h does not necessarily represent an error. It indicates residual heat in a zone that may still burn, even after the pan has been removed. The symbol should disappear once the glass reaches a safe temperature.

When the warning requires technical assistance

If the same code returns after resetting, the hob switches off repeatedly, the circuit breaker trips or no zone heats, the problem may involve a sensor, power module or electrical supply. Persistent burning-plastic odor, sparks, smoke or damaged glass are reasons to cut the power immediately and stop using the appliance.

The two-digit code should be reported exactly, together with the model and product number shown on the appliance label. This avoids inaccurate diagnoses because the same warning can vary between product series. The manual can confirm its meaning, but when the code remains or appears after a recent installation, inspection by a qualified technician is the safest option.
