Balay dishwasher error codes: a guide to fixing them
Identify your Balay alert, understand its cause and perform safe checks before requesting assistance.

Balay dishwasher alerts work like a fault map: they indicate whether the appliance is not receiving water, cannot heat, detects a leak or is struggling to drain. The code guides the diagnosis, but its meaning can vary slightly by model, so it should be considered alongside visible symptoms and the instruction manual.

What Balay’s main alerts indicate
Codes E01 and E02 are often linked to electronic faults or temperature readings. E03 and E09 frequently point to the heating circuit, while E04 may appear because of a filling, circulation or overflow problem. A dishwasher that finishes with cold water or leaves dishes wet needs particular attention to the heating system, rather than simply a reset.
Alerts E06, E07 and E08 may be connected to sensors, ventilation or internal water circulation. E10 and E11 are often associated with the heating element or temperature control; E12 can indicate limescale buildup in the heating system. On models showing E13, the issue may involve an inlet temperature that is too high. These equivalents do not replace the table for the specific model, because Balay uses different electronic platforms.
Among the most recognizable codes are E14, usually linked to flow measurement or water entry; E15, which activates leak protection; and E18, which signals a water-supply problem. E16 and E17 can also appear when filling does not happen as expected. If E15 appears, close the tap and unplug the appliance before moving or inspecting it: water protection must come first.
From a blocked drain to an electrical fault
Codes E19, E20 and E21 often need more specialized checking because they may affect valves, pumps or circulation circuits. E22 commonly appears when the filter is blocked, while E23 usually points to the drain pump. E24 and E25 are frequent drainage alerts: water remains in the tub, the cycle stops or the pump can be heard running without success.
Before removing anything, switch off the dishwasher, take out the lower filter and rinse away food residue. Check also that the drain hose is not kinked and that the sink trap allows water to pass. Do not insert metal objects or force the pump, since a minor blockage can damage the impeller.
E26 and E27 may be related to water regulation or an unsuitable electrical voltage. Alerts E28, E29 and E31 are less common and depend heavily on the series; E92-40 usually indicates an electronic fault requiring technical diagnosis. H06, meanwhile, can refer to a communication or sensor problem on certain appliances. If the alert returns immediately after cleaning and resetting, stop using the dishwasher.
How to reset the appliance without hiding the fault
A reset can clear a temporary lock, but it will not repair a leak, damaged heating element or blocked pump. To cancel a cycle, hold the start button for about three seconds until the panel confirms the interruption; then switch the appliance off and wait roughly one minute before turning it on again. Resetting should follow a check of the most obvious cause, not replace a repair.
The door must close firmly, the tap must be open and the inlet hose must not be crushed. A clean filter, unobstructed spray arms and a load that does not block the door can prevent many false alerts. If the panel does not respond, you smell burning, the circuit breaker trips or a leak code returns, unplug the appliance and contact a qualified technician. The electronic board, heating element and water-protection circuit are not suitable for improvised repairs.
The exact appliance reference is usually printed on the inner edge of the door and combines letters and numbers. This detail helps distinguish models with similar codes and find the correct meaning. Reading the alert together with the precise model turns a generic signal into a far more reliable diagnosis, particularly when the display shows unusual codes such as E31 or E92-40.
A code is a clue, not the complete diagnosis
Balay alerts help narrow down a fault and avoid random checks, but they rarely tell the whole story by themselves. Pump noise, the amount of water left inside, the temperature of the dishes and the exact point at which the cycle stops provide decisive information. Watching the full cycle helps distinguish an inlet, heating or drainage fault.
With clean filters, correctly adjusted dishwasher salt and an installation free from kinks, the appliance works with less strain. Even so, sensors, valves and electrical parts wear over time. The safest response to a persistent code combines basic cleaning, a controlled reset and professional assistance when the alert returns.
