Balay code error 29: meaning and how to fix it
E29 may have a simple solution: check the supply, filter and hose before assuming an internal failure.

The E29 code on a Balay washing machine usually means that the appliance is not receiving water with the flow or speed needed to start the program. The cause may be a partly closed tap, a bent hose or a blocked filter, although some models may assign it to another circuit. The exact model determines the definitive meaning of the warning, so consult its manual before removing any part.

What the E29 error means on a Balay washing machine
During filling, the washing machine opens a valve and waits to detect enough incoming water. If the flow is too low, arrives intermittently or cannot be registered by the system, the electronics stop the cycle. The drum may remain still, the program will not progress and the door may stay locked for a few minutes for safety. This is normally not a washing or spinning fault, but a filling problem.
The warning does not necessarily mean that the tap is closed. It can also appear because of low household pressure, sediment in the small hose screen, a hose crushed behind the appliance or an inlet valve that does not open properly. On Balay washer-dryers, coding may vary according to the electronic platform; if E29 appeared after a power surge or alongside electrical symptoms, confirm its meaning in the appliance documentation. A generic solution should not be applied to every model.
Simple checks before requesting service
Switch off the appliance, close the water supply and unplug it before checking the connection. The tap must be fully open and provide a steady stream. A useful test is to remove the hose carefully and let water run into a bucket; if the flow is weak, the source may be the valve, pipework or household pressure rather than the machine. This check quickly separates a domestic supply problem from an appliance fault.
Then check that the hose is not twisted, pressed against the wall or bent sharply. A mesh filter at the connection traps sand, limescale and small particles; with the water turned off, it can be cleaned gently without harsh tools. Refit everything, leave the washer unplugged for five minutes and test a short program. A clean filter and unobstructed hose often resolve the simplest cases.
When E29 requires professional inspection
If the external flow is normal, the filter is clean and the hose is undamaged, the problem may involve the solenoid valve, flow meter, pressure switch, connectors or control board. The solenoid valve controls water entry; when its coil fails, it sticks because of limescale or receives an irregular command, the washer may make a filling sound while too little water enters. These parts require electrical measurements and an organised diagnosis.
Professional assistance is also advisable if the error appears with a burning smell, moisture, corrosion, sparks or faults after a storm. Do not remove panels or measure mains voltage without suitable training, since the appliance combines water and electricity. In addition, E29 on some washer-dryer models may refer to an out-of-range supply voltage, a defective mains connection or a damaged interference filter. The model label and manual are essential to avoid confusing two different faults.
An intermittent E29 often points to a partial restriction: fluctuating pressure, accumulated dirt or a hose that compresses when the machine vibrates. If it remains after the external checks, repeated resets will not solve it and may delay the correct repair. The safest sequence is to check the supply first, then the inlet and finally the internal components.
A warning that guides the diagnosis
The appearance of E29 does not mean that the Balay washing machine has reached the end of its useful life. In many cases it reveals a temporary water limitation that can be corrected without replacing parts. The code narrows the search: noting when it appears, listening for the valve and checking whether other household taps have normal pressure can provide valuable diagnostic information. An error code is a protective signal, not an automatic verdict.
