C2 error on a Balay 917 hob: causes and solution
The C2 warning usually indicates excess heat. Find out what to do and when the hob should be inspected.

The C2 code on a Balay 917 series induction hob usually appears as protection against overheating. The electronics or a cooking zone has reached a high temperature, so the appliance limits its operation to prevent damage. It does not always indicate a permanent fault: in many cases, it disappears after removing the cookware and allowing the surface to cool.
The first response should be simple and safe. Switch off the hob, remove the pan or pot and wait until it has cooled completely; do not disconnect it by touching wires or try to lift the glass. Once the panel shows no signs of heat, switch off the corresponding circuit breaker for a few minutes and turn it back on.

What the C2 code means on a Balay 917
On Balay 3EB917F, 3EB917L and related models, the C2 warning is usually associated with excessive temperature in the cooking zone or internal components. The protection may activate when high power is used for a long time, when the pan is empty or when the ventilation underneath is blocked.
The error can also appear when the hob is installed above an overfilled drawer, a tray or material that prevents air from entering. Induction hobs need to release heat through the underside; even if the glass feels cool, the electronic module below it may still be building up heat.
C2 should not be confused with the letter H, which indicates residual heat. H means that a zone remains hot after cooking, while C2 is a protection warning. The key difference is that the code interrupts or limits operation, whereas the residual-heat indicator gradually disappears as the temperature drops.
How to perform a safe reset
After removing the cookware, leave the hob switched off for 20 to 30 minutes. Do not place ice, soaked cloths or cold containers on hot glass, because a sudden temperature change can cause stress and damage to the ceramic surface. It is also worth checking that the ventilation openings are not covered.
The electrical reset is performed at the home distribution board: switch off the relevant circuit breaker, wait at least five minutes and switch it on again. Do not dismantle the hob or handle its wiring; even when disconnected, an induction installation may contain electrical components that require professional attention.
If the message disappears and the hob heats normally again, it was probably a one-off safety activation. During subsequent cooking, use suitable cookware, avoid leaving it empty and allow room for air circulation. A warped base or an unsuitable pan can also affect the cooking zone.
When the warning indicates a fault
Professional inspection is advisable if C2 returns while the hob is cold, appears immediately after switching on or returns after only a few minutes of moderate use. This may indicate a faulty temperature sensor, fan or power module, rather than simple excess heat caused by cooking.
Before requesting assistance, note the full model shown on the appliance label and check whether the code affects one zone or the entire panel. This information helps distinguish a localized problem from a general incident. If you also hear cracking sounds, smell hot plastic or the circuit breaker trips, stop using the hob immediately.
The Balay 917 hob is designed to stop before a dangerous temperature causes greater damage. Respecting the warning, keeping the ventilation clear and avoiding repeated forced resets is usually more useful than making the appliance work at all costs. A persistent code deserves a diagnosis, particularly when it affects electrical safety or heating power.
