Balay 3VS572BP: what error E19 means and what to do
E19 stops the wash because of an internal fault. These checks help locate it without putting the appliance at risk.

Error E19 on the Balay 3VS572BP dishwasher usually indicates an issue with the detergent dosing or water-softener regeneration system. The appliance may stop while filling, at the start of the wash, or while managing salt because the electronics do not receive the expected response from a valve or its control circuit.
If you have a problem with your dishwasher, you can use our free error code search tool. From there you can find out what all errors mean and solve them easily and effectively.
What E19 means on this Balay model
On the technical platform shared by several appliances in the BSH group, E19 does not describe a simple lack of salt or a dirty filter. The most common source is the water-softener regeneration valve, a component that treats hard water and helps maintain dishwasher performance. Depending on the appliance version and technical diagnosis, it may also involve the dispenser or the electronic control board.
The appliance behavior provides useful clues. If it tries to take in water and stops, repeats a phase without progressing, or shows the error after salt is added, the valve, its connections, or an internal channel blocked by mineral deposits may be involved. A correct salt level will not clear the fault if the cap does not seal properly or the regeneration mechanism is stuck.
There may also be a wiring problem: a loose connector, moisture, corrosion, or a damaged conductor can prevent the board from activating the component. In less common cases, the part works but the electronic driver powering it has failed. For that reason, it is not reliable to blame detergent or the general water supply without checking the appliance behavior.
Safe checks before attempting a repair
Before touching the dishwasher, unplug it and close the water tap. Removing panels while the appliance is connected exposes you to electrical voltage and water leaks. An initial household check is to confirm that the salt reservoir contains dishwasher salt, that the cap is clean, and that it is fully screwed on without being forced.
After an electrical reset, check whether E19 returns immediately. If it does, avoid running repeated cycles: the pump may continue operating without completing the program and the fault could worsen. Inspecting filters, spray arms, or the inlet hose can help with other codes, but it usually does not solve a specific regeneration-valve fault.
The valve is often located beside the water softener, behind a side panel or in the lower area, although the position varies by configuration. A technician can inspect the connector and measure coil resistance with a multimeter; an open circuit suggests a damaged coil. This test requires the appliance to be completely isolated from the mains and does not replace identifying the exact spare part.
When the repair should be left to a technician
If the wiring is damaged, there is water in the base, you notice a burning smell, or the code returns after resetting, stop using the dishwasher. Replacing the valve requires a part compatible with the appliance’s exact identification number, not merely one made for the same brand. Fitting a similar component can cause another incorrect reading or a leak.
The control board should only be considered after the valve, wiring, and water-softener blockages have been ruled out. E19 alone cannot identify which component has failed; it signals that the circuit did not complete the expected operation. This distinction helps avoid replacing expensive parts without prior testing.
After the repair, the dishwasher should complete a short program without stopping and without leaving water in the base. Using dishwasher salt, keeping the cap clean, and setting the water hardness correctly help protect the softener. On a built-in appliance such as the Balay 3VS572BP, interpreting the code before dismantling anything is the safest way to distinguish a temporary issue from an electronic failure.
