What the E24 error means on a Balay dishwasher

Balay dishwashers share much of their design and coding with other appliances from the BSH group, but the practical meaning of this warning is the same: the system detects that draining is taking too long or has not been completed. The appliance may fill with water at the beginning and display E24 two or three minutes later, when the drain pump should start operating.

The pump is not always the cause. Food scraps, labels, small pieces of glass or grease deposits can restrict the water passage in the filter, outlet pipe or pump housing. The rear hose may also be pressed against the wall, or the internal cap on the siphon outlet may not have been removed after installation. In that situation, a physical barrier blocks the water even though the hose appears to be connected.

Remove the collected water with a sponge or container, wearing strong gloves if sharp fragments may be present. Inspect the drain hose along its entire length. It should form a broad curve, without kinks, crushing or visible dirt. If the dishwasher was installed recently, this connection deserves particular attention: some new siphons still have a seal that completely prevents water from leaving.

The pump cover is located beneath the filter. Depending on the model, it may be released with a latch or by turning it; do not force the part if the manual describes another method. Remove it only when the appliance is disconnected and check that the rotor can move smoothly, without threads, bones or trapped objects. An incorrectly fitted cover can prevent pumping and cause the code to return even after the filter has been cleaned.

If the hose, siphon, filter and pump are clear but water remains in the tub, the fault may involve the pump itself, its wiring, a level sensor or the electronic module. A humming sound without water movement suggests a blocked or worn rotor; complete silence does not rule out an electrical fault. Do not remove the appliance base without experience, as this can cause leaks or damage to seals.

After cleaning, refit every component correctly, reconnect the appliance and select a drain or short program. The error should disappear if a blockage was the cause, although some models require cancelling the cycle by holding the start button for a few seconds. If E24 returns, water remains or a leak is visible, stop using the dishwasher and arrange a qualified inspection.
